Nature Guiding Skills
Everything you need to know to improve your guiding skills as a nature guide (Equivalent to Module 1 - FGASA NQF2 - Guiding Skills)
Having the right guiding skills and mindset is essential in becoming an excellent nature guide. Knowing how to work effectively as a guide and work well with guests, will make being a nature guide a joy.
This short course will help you start learning the essential guiding skills, such as:
What is a professional nature guide? Requirements of becoming a nature guide. The ethics of a professional guide. Professional behaviour of a guide. Informing guests. Creating the right atmosphere. Developing an itinerary. Ensuring your guests safety, health and comfort. Caring for people with disabilities. Communication skills. Dealing with guests. Caring for guests and more.
Although this course is not accredited, it is aligned with the standard and information of the FGASA NQF2 Site Guides Course, and should help you in preparing for that theory exam (Module1)
Your Instructor
Shari is the owner and senior facilitator of Inkuba Field Guide Training, with over 20 years of experience in managing large conservation and hospitality teams, across the private, government and NPO sectors.
Her background in Field Guiding, Environmental Education, Conservation, Tourism and Management, inform her knowledgeable and enthusiastic approach. Shari is fuelled by her passion for helping people enjoy, understand and care for nature. She considers herself a continual learner, eager to build her knowledge and skill and stay valuable to the conservation and tourism worlds.
Shari’s hunger for knowledge and passionate determination to turn information into action and help others to do the same has led to her founding Inkuba.
Shari has led large teams, that have managed some of South Africa’s most prominent wildlife and conservation areas while fighting for the wise use of our natural resources, and helping others on their journeys to become passionate conservationists.
Shari believes every person is valuable, has value to add, and can take steps to care for the Earth and people appropriately. Shari desires that each person be allowed to enjoy the fullness of peace and contentment that time in nature allows.
